US-Based Nigerian Professor Stabbed to Death by Son
By Micheal Chukwuebuka
A 29-year-old Nigerian man, Chukwuebuka Eweni, has been taken into custody after allegedly stabbing his 75-year-old father, Professor Samuel Eweni, to death and injuring his two sisters in New Orleans, Louisiana, United States.
Family members told WWL Louisiana that the deceased was a computer science professor at Southern University at New Orleans (SUNO).
According to relatives, Eweni attacked his father and two sisters on Tuesday night, 11 November 2025. One of the injured sisters has since been discharged from hospital, while the other remained under medical care as of Wednesday afternoon but is expected to recover.
Family members said Eweni had a long history of mental illness but had never previously exhibited violent behaviour. They described Tuesday evening as an ordinary night at their home on Pebble Drive until he suddenly grabbed a knife. They said they did not know what triggered the attack.
Following the incident, relatives discovered that Eweni had gone to New Orleans East Hospital, where he routinely sought mental health support. Unaware of the stabbing, the hospital reportedly transferred him to a facility in Jefferson Parish, where he was later traced and arrested on Wednesday morning.
On Wednesday afternoon, SUNO issued a statement confirming and mourning the death of Professor Samuel Eweni.
