The Delta State Police Command has recovered an AK-47 rifle and 26 rounds of live ammunition following a gun duel between police operatives and suspected kidnappers and armed robbers in Ughelli North Local Government Area.

The incident occurred on October 31, 2026, at about 8:35 p.m., when operatives of the Commissioner of Police Special Assignment Team (CP-SAT), in collaboration with the Ughelli Vigilante, raided a suspected criminal hideout in a forested area of Ekrerhavwe, Ughelli North LGA, following credible intelligence.

According to the Command, the suspects opened fire after sighting the operatives, leading to an exchange of gunfire.

Two of the suspects reportedly sustained gunshot injuries during the encounter, while other members of the group fled into the surrounding forest.

The injured suspects were taken to a hospital for medical attention but were subsequently pronounced dead by a medical doctor.

A search of the area led to the recovery of one AK-47 rifle, 26 rounds of live ammunition and two face masks, the police said.

The Command said efforts were ongoing to track and arrest the fleeing suspects.

The Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Samuel E. Erale, reiterated the Command’s commitment to tackling kidnapping, armed robbery and other violent crimes across the state.

Erale urged residents to remain vigilant and provide the police with credible and timely information that could assist ongoing operations and enhance the protection of lives and property across Delta State.
