American rapper and global music icon Nicki Minaj addressed world leaders at a United Nations event today, condemning the recent surge of violence against Christians in Nigeria. During her remarks, she expressed deep sorrow over reports of targeted killings and urged the international community to take collective action to protect persecuted religious minorities. Minaj described the killings as “a crisis that demands our urgent attention,” calling on global institutions to hold perpetrators accountable.

Minaj’s presence at the UN event carried symbolic weight, given her massive platform and influence. She emphasized that these attacks cannot be ignored and called for stronger mechanisms of protection, including both diplomatic pressure and humanitarian support for vulnerable communities in Nigeria. Her remarks resonated with faith-based organisations and human rights activists, many of whom have long sounded the alarm over insecurity in Nigeria’s Middle Belt and North.

In closing, she urged world leaders to unite in defending the rights of religious minorities, not just in Nigeria, but globally. She also called on the Nigerian government to take immediate and concrete steps to guarantee the safety of its citizens, regardless of faith. Her intervention at the UN, she said, was “not just as an artist, but as a voice for the voiceless.”
