Police in Borno State have confirmed the abduction of 14 girls by suspected Boko Haram/Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) fighters in the Huyum community of Askira/Uba Local Government Area.
ASP Nahum Kenneth Daso, spokesperson for the state police command, said the girls-all from the Mussa District-were seized Friday afternoon while working on a farm.
The District Head of Huyum reported the incident, prompting security agencies to launch a joint search-and-rescue operation.
A combined team of police officers, soldiers, members of the Civilian Joint Task Force and vigilante hunters was deployed to comb the surrounding areas.
During the operation, one of the abducted girls escaped and was rescued unharmed by security personnel.
Daso said efforts are ongoing to locate and rescue the remaining 13 victims, with security teams continuing operations in the remote community.
Borno State Commissioner of Police Naziru Abdulmajid reassured residents that security agencies are coordinating closely to track the perpetrators and secure the girls’ release.
He urged communities, especially farmers, to remain vigilant and restrict their activities to areas under security patrols.
The police said additional updates will be provided as the operation continues.
