The United States has strongly condemned the recent mass abductions of students in Niger and Kebbi states, describing the incidents as deeply troubling and unacceptable. In its statement, the U.S. Bureau of African Affairs expressed concern over the growing trend of large-scale kidnappings targeting schoolchildren and teachers in Northern Nigeria.
According to the U.S., the kidnapping of more than 300 students and teachers in Niger State, alongside the abduction of 25 schoolgirls in Kebbi, highlights the urgent need for stronger security measures. The agency called for immediate action to protect vulnerable communities and prevent criminal groups from exploiting security gaps.
The U.S. further urged the Nigerian government to intensify operations against armed groups responsible for these attacks. It also reaffirmed its support for Nigeria’s counter-terrorism efforts, stressing that safeguarding schools must be treated as a national priority.
