The Nigerian Army’s 7 Division has held its fourth-quarter sensitization seminar for troops of Operation Hadin Kai in its efforts to ensure smooth civil-military relations in Nigeria’s northeastern region. The seminar focused on human rights and professionalism.

‎The occasion took place at the Theatre Command Officers’ Mess in Maimalari Cantonment, Maiduguri, and was attended by top military officers, including the Chief of Civil-Military Affairs, Major General M.A. Etsu-Ndagi.

‎Acting General Officer Commanding 7 Division and Sector 1 Commander, Brigadier General U.V. Unachukwu, said the workshop was conceived by Army Headquarters in order to enhance interactions between military personnel and civilians in conflict-saturated environments.

‎“The workshop is one of the important initiatives of the Army Headquarters in ensuring that there is no gap between the Nigerian Army and the civilian population in our area of operations,” said Brig Gen Unachukwu. “We shall learn from the knowledge and application of human rights in order to win the hearts and minds of our civilian population,” he further said.

‎Further, he said that 7 Division has always taken an active role in the counterinsurgency operation in the northern part of Nigeria. “The sensitisation program ensures that the military discharge their duties effectively while upholding the fundamental human rights of citizens,” he said.

‎The seminar equally aligns with the larger reforms being implemented by the Chief of Army Staff to bolster the professionalism and efficiency of the Nigerian Army.

‎The participants, including police officers and members of the military, expressed gratitude to the facilitators and resource persons for conducting the training.
