Prominent Niger Delta leaders and stakeholders, including renowned writer and activist Enewaridideke Ekanpou PhD, traditional Chiefs, community leaders, stakeholders and government functionaries gathered at Kalafiogbene Community in Bomadi Local Government Area of Delta State to bid farewell to the late Rev. Mother Margaret Alhaji Ekotoro Oruserikeme, mother-in-law of Ekanpou PhD on Thursday.

Ekanpou, described his late mother in-law as a virtuous woman, saying that her selfless services to humanity, including friends, relatives and service to God while alive would continue to be remembered so long humans exist.

The rural community came alive when dignitaries trooped in the community to give the deceased 99-year-old matriarch a final farewell. The burial ceremony took place on November 27, 2025, at her hometown, Kalafiogbene Community. The event was attended by friends, well-wishers, leaders, and stakeholders from various walks of life.

The burial program began with a service of songs held on November 25, 2025, at John Ekotoro Street, Oruwhorun Town in Udu local government area of Delta State followed by the main burial ceremony on November 27, which commenced at 7 am. The body was laid to rest at the Christ Divine and Gospel Mission (CDGM), Elohim City Zion Kalafiogbene, after a requiem service and interment.

Children, family members and people who know her closely shared a deep emotion for the irreparable loss, stating that mama’s death, though she died at the rightful age, would be greatly missed, considering her good legacies.

However, some persons expressed shock over Mama’s Demise but others described it as a celebration of a life well spent, stating that she bowed to a supreme call at the most appropriate time.

Meanwhile, an all-night social wake which looks like a mega fiesta full of fun was held on November 27, with music provided by Chief Barrister Smooth, the Paddle of Niger Delta.

However, the event was a fitting tribute to the late Rev. Mother Margaret Alhaji Ekotoro Oruserikeme, who lived a life of great character and devotion.
