Delta Police Break Major Cult, Arms, and Drug Networks in Fresh Statewide Crackdown
By Diafa Doubra, Warri.
The Delta State Police Command has intensified its campaign against cultism, illicit firearms, and drug-related activities, recording significant breakthroughs in Abraka and several hotspot communities across the state. The operations, carried out under the leadership of Commissioner of Police Olufemi Abaniwonda, reflect the Command’s recent push to dismantle criminal networks through intelligence-driven policing.
The first major breakthrough came on Saturday, December 6, 2025, when operatives of the CP-Special Assignment Team (CP-SAT), led by ASP Julius Robinson, stormed a residence in Umeghe Community, Abraka. Officers acting on credible intelligence conducted a coordinated search at the home of a 67-year-old man, Isiakpere Friday, suspected of aiding criminal activities in the area. During the raid, police recovered two pump-action guns and thirty-nine live cartridges.
The suspect was immediately taken into custody as detectives launch broader investigations to determine whether he has ties to cult groups, illegal arms suppliers, or other criminal syndicates operating in and around the Abraka axis.
In a separate operation targeting the growing drug abuse problem in Delta State, the Command’s Buffalo Unit cracked down on notorious drug-selling spots known as Play-Learn, Sweet Spirit Area, and Pinnacle Junction. The coordinated sweep, carried out after prolonged surveillance, led to the arrest and arraignment of eighteen male suspects on December 5, 2025.
Those charged include individuals aged between 16 and 38, all accused of engaging in the distribution of illicit drugs across these densely populated hubs. The suspects among them Wisdom Nwanze age 38, Godspower Vincent age 25, Trust Bobua age 17, and Onyeka Solomon age 16 were arraigned before a competent court and subsequently remanded in prison custody pending fulfillment of their bail conditions.
Commissioner of Police Abaniwonda praised both CP-SAT operatives and the Buffalo Unit for their effective enforcement efforts, describing the operations as clear evidence of the Command’s commitment to proactive, intelligence-led policing. He reiterated that the Delta State Police Command will not tolerate cultism, arms trafficking, drug distribution, or any activity that threatens the peace and safety of residents.
The CP further urged members of the public to remain vigilant and continue providing credible information, stressing that community partnership remains vital to sustaining security gains across the state.
