By Micheal Chukwuebuka
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has confirmed a devastating multiple-vehicle crash that claimed 12 lives at approximately 11:45hrs on Sunday, 11 January 2026, at Gada Biyu, along the Yangoji-Abuja corridor.
According to a statement by FRSC’s Public Education Officer, Segun Ogungbemide, the crash involved four vehicles: a coal-carrying commercial trailer, a commercial bus, and two commercial cars.
Preliminary investigations suggest speed violation and reckless driving may have caused the incident, resulting in loss of control. The truck driver, allegedly speeding beyond the corridor’s limit, lost control and collided with parked vehicles, triggering the fatal crash.
Of the 18 people involved, five died instantly, while seven others succumbed to injuries at the hospital, bringing the death toll to 12. Three others sustained injuries, including bruises, cuts, fractures, and head injuries, and are receiving medical attention.
