The Burutu Local Government Area chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has inaugurated a caretaker committee, with Christopher Akontua as its chairman, on February 27, 2026.

The inauguration ceremony which was held in Burutu was presided over by a state party delegation which was led by Mr Kenairu Johnbull Aghogho.
Mr Akontua-led Burutu PDP caretaker committee and the 11 wards chairmen were jointly inaugurated.

However, it’s worth noting that the PDP has been actively restructuring its leadership in various states, where a caretaker committees were recently inaugurated in the affected states including Delta where Prof. Sylvester Monye emerged as chairman.

While speaking during the inauguration, Aghogho charged the Burutu CTC to be hardworking, courageous and ensure more members were woo into the party.

The various speakers expressed confidence that Burutu PDP would win the state assembly seat and house of representatives seat in the next general elections in the country.

However, the caretaker committee is expected to oversee the party’s affairs in Burutu LGA, with the goal of rebuilding and strengthening the party’s structure ahead of future Congresses.

Meanwhile, Comrade Jackson Agbor who was the earlier caretaker chairman, now a member in the state working committee, expressed satisfaction in the handover process and the inauguration ceremony.

Snr Comrade Ozobo Austin who is the leader of the party in the local government area stated that there is no faction in Burutu PDP, adding that APC members were infiltrating with the single aim of destabilizing the party for their paymasters. Urging true PDP faithfuls to disregard their activities.
