The chairman of the Inauguration ceremony of Ijaw Publishers Forum, IPF second NEC, Ambassador Shedrack Agediga who doubled as the chairman of Delta State Scholars/Busary board has emphasised the critical role of the media in the emancipation of the Ijaw and Niger Delta people, urging the Ijaw Publishers Forum (IPF) to take control of their narrative. Speaking at the 2nd inauguration of IPF, Agediga stated that when others tell your story, they define your reality, stressing that the media is not just a tool, but a strategy for resistance and power.

He stated this while speaking through Mr Presi Francis during the inauguration ceremony of IPF.

Agediga, a product of the Niger Delta struggle, highlighted the importance of practical emancipation, citing examples of Ijaw communities suffering from poverty, environmental degradation, and lack of basic amenities despite the region’s rich oil resources. He emphasized that emancipation encompasses political, economic, environmental, and cultural dimensions, and that controlling the narrative is key to achieving it.

The IPF inauguration was attended by distinguished guests, traditional rulers, and stakeholders from the Niger Delta. Agediga’s message was clear: the Ijaw people must tell their own story to shape their future.
