Delta Police Recover Six Firearms, Hard Drugs; Arrest Suspected Drug Dealer, Gun Fabricator

The Delta State Police Command has intensified its crime-fighting operations across the state, leading to the recovery of six locally made firearms, four live cartridges and various hard drugs, as well as the arrest of a suspected gun fabricator and a drug dealer.
The Commissioner of Police in the state, Aina Adesola, disclosed that the Command remains committed to proactive policing and intelligence-led operations aimed at protecting lives and property.
Operatives of the Police Raiders Squad arrested a suspected illegal firearm manufacturer during a raid carried out in the early hours of March 6, 2026, at Emuhu community in Ika South Local Government Area of Delta State.
The operation, led by the Commander of the Raiders Squad, Akanya Agbogha, followed credible intelligence about the existence of a firearm fabrication site in the community.
During the raid, the operatives arrested a 59-year-old suspect identified as Friday Ojei. A search of the premises led to the recovery of four locally fabricated guns as well as equipment allegedly used in the illegal production of firearms.
Items recovered from the workshop include a welding machine, a drilling machine, a grinding machine and several metal pipes suspected to be used for gun fabrication.
Police said the suspect is currently in custody while investigations are ongoing to identify and arrest other members of the illegal firearm production network.
In a separate operation, a combined patrol team from the Ovwian-Aladja Police Division recovered another locally made firearm during a routine stop-and-search along Film Hall Road in Ovwian-Aladja.
The patrol team, led by the Divisional Police Officer, Ekundayo Friday, included operatives of the Police Raiders Volunteers, Anti-Cult Volunteers and Hunters Volunteers.
Police said the officers spotted a group of suspected hoodlums who fled immediately upon sighting the security operatives. During a chase, the suspects abandoned a black bag which was later searched by the patrol team.
The search led to the recovery of one locally made short gun. The suspects, however, escaped, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend them.
Similarly, operatives of the Ovwian-Aladja Police Station arrested a suspected drug dealer during a raid on a location along Oruworowh Road in Udu.
The operation, carried out based on credible intelligence and led by the Divisional Crime Officer in collaboration with members of the Anti-Cult Volunteer Group, resulted in the arrest of a 43-year-old woman identified as Esther Etafo.
Police said a search of the premises led to the recovery of different quantities of suspected hard drugs including cannabis, kolos, ice, loud and fermented Indian hemp.
Also recovered were three blenders suspected to be used in processing the substances and the sum of ₦55,000 believed to be proceeds from the illicit drug trade.
Reacting to the operations, CP Aina Adesola commended the professionalism and vigilance of the officers involved.
The police chief also urged members of the public to continue providing credible and timely information to assist security agencies in tackling criminal activities in the state.
The command reaffirmed its resolve to sustain intelligence-driven policing and ensure the safety and security of residents across Delta State.
The Police Public Relations Officer of the command, Bright Edafe, stated that investigations into the cases are ongoing.
