‘I Paid ₦17m and Still Had to Escape’ — Ekiti Kidnap Survivor Tells His Story

An X user identified as @GbolahanOl75923 has shared a harrowing account of his abduction experience in Ekiti State, near the boundary with Kogi State.
According to his account, the victim was kidnapped in October 23, 2025 while working as a farm manager at a remote farm location.
He revealed that he was held captive in the wilderness for 42 days, during which his abductors demanded and collected a ransom of ₦17 million.
Despite the payment, he said he was not released. Instead, he managed to escape alongside other captives, describing the ordeal as physically and emotionally devastating. He added that he and his family are still burdened by heavy debt as a result of the ransom payment.
Reacting to his experience, the survivor expressed deep frustration and despair over the state of insecurity in Nigeria, lamenting the impact of kidnapping on ordinary citizens.
The account has sparked renewed conversations online about insecurity, rural vulnerability, and the growing risks faced by farmers and workers in remote areas.
