Economic Professor Speaks On Youth Unemployment Crisis at SWUYN 10th Anniversary
By Joseph Bienbo, Warri
The Society for the Welfare of Unemployed Youths of Nigeria (SWUYN) kicked off its 10th Anniversary celebrations with a keynote address by Economics Professor Clement Atewe Igbodaro, highlighting the alarming rate of youth unemployment in Nigeria.
Prof. Igbodaro described youth unemployment as a serious socio-economic challenge, with millions of young Nigerians unable to find meaningful employment opportunities. He attributed this to structural issues such as inadequate infrastructure, weak industrial growth, and skills mismatch.
The economist called for comprehensive reforms integrating entrepreneurship, technology education, and vocational training into Nigeria’s education system. He emphasized the need for stronger collaboration between government, private sector, and civil society organizations to generate sustainable employment.
SWUYN National President, Comr. Preye V. Tambou, commended Prof. Igbodaro’s timely analysis, reaffirming the organization’s commitment to advocating policies empowering unemployed youths.
The three-day event beginning from 10th March, 2026 featured policy discussions, skills training, and advocacy activities aimed at promoting solutions for Nigerian youths.
