By Chukwunonso Eric, Warri.
The Delta State Police Command has recorded major operational successes with the rescue of kidnapped victims and the arrest of a suspected armed robber, alongside the recovery of a locally fabricated firearm.
In a press release issued on March 23, 2026, the Command disclosed that operatives successfully rescued a 27-year-old woman (name withheld) who was abducted in Ibusa community.
The victim was reportedly kidnapped on March 12, 2026, and taken to a building site near the Obosi River along the Ibusa/Ogwashiku Road. Acting on intelligence, the Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, Aina Adesola, directed the Special Anti-Kidnapping and Cyber-Crime Squad to ensure her safe rescue and apprehend the perpetrators.
On March 19, 2026, operatives of the squad tracked the kidnappers to their hideout. Upon arrival, the suspects reportedly opened fire on the police team, prompting a tactical response. Overpowered by the operatives’ superior firepower, the kidnappers fled the scene, abandoning their captives.
The rescued victims were immediately taken to a general hospital for medical attention, while efforts to track down and arrest the fleeing suspects are ongoing.
In a separate operation, the Command also confirmed the arrest of a suspected armed robber identified as Sunday Blessing. The suspect was apprehended following a distress call received by the Divisional Police Officer of Owa-Oyibu Division on March 18, 2026.
The report indicated that the suspect, alongside two accomplices currently at large, had earlier robbed a Point-of-Sale (POS) operator of the sum of ₦600,000 at gunpoint along Diffrey Road by Ebu Owa Market.
Police operatives swiftly mobilized to the scene, leading to the arrest of the suspect and the recovery of a locally made Beretta pistol.
The suspect is currently in police custody, and investigations are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing accomplices.
The Delta State Police Command reiterated its commitment to ensuring the safety of residents and warned criminal elements to desist or face the full weight of the law.
