The Delta State Police Command has dismissed as false and misleading a claim that a suspect died in police custody at Ekpan Police Station, warning against the spread of misinformation capable of undermining public confidence in law enforcement.

In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, Bright Edafe, the Command refuted allegations made by self-acclaimed activist Israel Joe, describing the report as “completely unfounded” and a deliberate attempt to discredit ongoing security efforts in the state.

The Command clarified that no suspect died in custody at Ekpan or any other part of Delta State, contrary to the claims circulating in the publication.

According to the police, the operation referenced in the report was a coordinated raid on criminal hideouts conducted between March 25 and 26, 2026, under the supervision of the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations, Olumuyiwa Adejobi. The exercise led to the arrest of over 270 suspects across Ughelli and Warri, including individuals suspected of drug trafficking and cult-related activities.

Authorities said significant quantities of illicit drugs were recovered during the operation. All arrested individuals were screened, with those not implicated released, while others remain in custody “in good condition.” The Command emphasized that no casualties were recorded throughout the exercise.

Condemning the circulation of what it described as reckless misinformation, the police noted that such actions could mislead the public, erode trust in law enforcement, and distract from ongoing efforts to combat crime in the state.

While acknowledging the role of civic engagement, the Command cautioned individuals against using activism or blogging platforms to disseminate false narratives. It warned that anyone found spreading misinformation against the police would face investigation and possible prosecution in accordance with the law.

Reaffirming its commitment to protecting lives and property, the Command urged residents to disregard the disputed publication and rely solely on official communication channels for accurate information. It reiterated its dedication to professionalism, accountability, and public safety across Delta State.
