The Delta State Police Command has recorded significant breakthroughs in its ongoing crackdown on crime, with the arrest of 34 suspected cybercriminals and the foiling of a suspected armed robbery operation in separate coordinated actions across the state.

In a statement issued on Monday, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, said operatives of the Quick Response Squad, led by SP Collins Arrey, carried out a targeted raid on March 28, 2026, at Opete, following a distress call alleging that a young man was being held against his will and coerced into internet fraud.

The operation uncovered what authorities described as a well-organized cybercrime hub operating from a residential apartment. A total of 34 suspects were arrested at the scene.

Items recovered during the raid include 37 laptops, one iPad, seven mobile phones, and a calabash containing suspected charms, pointing to the scale and coordinated nature of the illicit activities. Police say investigations are ongoing to dismantle the network and identify other accomplices.

In a separate development on March 29, 2026, police operatives attached to the Department of Operations intercepted a tricycle along the Ogbolu/Illah Road under suspicious circumstances.

According to the police, one of the occupants attempted to flee into a nearby bush upon sighting the operatives, while the rider pretended to comply. The fleeing suspect reportedly resisted arrest and attacked officers with a wooden object before being subdued.

A search of the tricycle led to the recovery of a locally fabricated cut-to-size firearm loaded with two live cartridges.

The suspects were identified as Mustapha Musa, 32, from Kogi State, and the tricycle rider, Iyanosor Ogbizi, 34. Both are currently in police custody as investigations continue.

Reacting to the developments, the Commissioner of Police, CP Yemi John Oyeniyi, reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to intelligence-driven policing and its resolve to rid Delta State of criminal elements.

He urged residents to remain vigilant and support law enforcement efforts by providing timely and credible information.

The police noted that the recent operations highlight the effectiveness of rapid response strategies and community cooperation in tackling crime across the state.
