Delta Police Intensify Public Engagement on Day Three of National Police Week 2026
By Chukwunonso Eric, Warri.
The Delta State Police Command has sustained its community-focused initiatives as activities marking the 2026 National Police Week entered its third day, with a statewide public and drivers’ sensitization programme aimed at promoting safety and strengthening police-community relations.
The exercise, held on Wednesday across various parts of the state, focused on educating residents and road users on personal security, crime prevention, and the importance of promptly reporting suspicious activities to law enforcement authorities.
Police officers engaged directly with members of the public, offering practical guidance on safety measures and encouraging citizens to play active roles in maintaining peace and security within their communities.
A key highlight of the day’s activities was a targeted sensitization session for drivers, including members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Delta State chapter, held in Asaba. The session emphasized adherence to traffic regulations, responsible driving, and the need for motorists to keep their vehicle documents up to date.
Drivers were also cautioned against reckless driving and urged to cooperate with law enforcement officers in the discharge of their duties. The initiative, according to the Command, is part of broader efforts to reduce road accidents and ensure orderliness on roads across the state.
As part of its outreach, the Police distributed souvenirs and gift items to members of the public, a gesture aimed at fostering goodwill and reinforcing trust between the Police and the communities they serve.
Speaking during the programme, the Chairman of the NURTW in Delta State described the initiative as timely and impactful, commending the Police for the engagement. He further stressed that any driver found violating traffic rules, including indiscriminate parking or failure to update vehicle documents, should face appropriate sanctions.
The Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Yemi John Oyeniyi, reiterated the importance of public enlightenment in effective policing. He urged residents to remain vigilant, law-abiding, and proactive in sharing credible information with security agencies.
The Command reaffirmed its commitment to continuous engagement with the public as part of efforts to build safer communities and enhance security across Delta State.
