From Babangida Abdullahi Gusau
The Zamfara State chairperson committee Women Wing of Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) Comrade Shafa’atu Jabbi said, celebration of women’s achievements, strength, resilience, and contributions encompass International Women’s Day 2026.
“This year’s theme, “This Struggle Must Be Fed,” reminds us that the fight for women’s rights, dignity, equality, and empowerment must continue with renewed commitment. Comrade Shafa’atu said.
Comrade Shafa’atu also said, Women play a vital role in every sector of our society, but many still face inequality, limited opportunities, and barriers to leadership.
“As labour leaders, we recognize that empowering women is necessary for sustainable development.
Also speaking, the State chairperson of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) Comrade Sani Halliru Magajin Rafi represented by his Secretary Comrade Ahmad Abubakar said, NLC is in full solidarity with working class women, market women, peasant farmers, informal economy workers, and all oppressed women across the country and the globe.
“We honour their unyielding resistance who have fought, bled and died in the trenches of class struggle. Comrade Ahmad said.
The secretary NLC said, Women have continued to give their lives while working to lift up the state and country in general.
“Those who were kidnapped or abducted to their way or at work and those who have lost their lives at home as a result of an avoidable state of insecurity in our dear nation. Comrade Ahmed said.
Comrade Ahamad Abubakar said, the struggle for women’s rights demands to put and pour collective resources, intellectual energy and organisational power into the movement for women’s emancipation.
“To “Give” is to invest in the only force that guarantees national liberation; the empowerment of the woman’s worker. To “Gain” is to shatter the patriarchal chains that bind our unions, our work places and our society to backwardness. The NLC Secretary said.
The NLC Secretary further said, the Union strongly align itself with the global movement and struggle with the theme “Rights, Justice, Action For All Women and Girls” and this will continue to promote equal rights, fair opportunities, safe workplaces, and respect for all women in the society.
“It’s a clear belief that our great women faced numerous challenges ranging from Gender-based violence and harassment, Limited access to education and economic opportunities, Unequal pay and discriminatory practices, Underrepresentation in leadership positions, Lack of access to healthcare and reproductive rights. Comrade Ahamad said.
“It is therefore our sole responsibility to join hands together and fight this course to the conclusion.
The labour Union applauded the effort of Governor Dauda Lawal in addressing the women’s challenges but they requested more opportunities for women.
Comrade Ahamad said, no iota of doubt women are the backbone of every development therefore and called for empowerment.
The labour Union called on the ruling class and elites to vigorously join hands together to liberate women as liberating them is liberating the whole society.
The theme for this year’s celebration “Give to Gain” is not and will never be a charity appeal but a crystal clear and radical strategy and as such a call to battle stations.
