The Delta State Police Command has announced sweeping security measures aimed at strengthening public safety, intensifying crime prevention efforts, and enhancing emergency response systems across the state.

The directives, issued under the leadership of Commissioner of Police Yemi Oyeniyi, follow a comprehensive review of the security landscape in Delta State. The move aligns with a nationwide mandate by the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, directing all police commands to intensify visibility policing, adopt intelligence-led operations, and strengthen community partnerships.

As part of the renewed strategy, the Command has commenced massive deployment of personnel across all nine Area Commands, divisions, and other critical locations. Residents can expect increased stop-and-search operations along major highways, entry and exit routes, and identified flashpoints, alongside sustained day and night patrols. The police also disclosed ongoing collaboration with other security agencies to reinforce coordinated operations statewide.

The Command emphasized a streamlined operational focus targeting key security priorities, including the protection of lives and property, maintenance of law and order, prevention of unlawful gatherings, and disruption of criminal networks. Authorities added that intelligence-led raids on black spots and criminal hideouts will be sustained.

Particular attention is being directed at tackling kidnapping and herdsmen-related crimes in high-risk areas such as Owa-Oyibu, Ogwashi-Uku power line axis, Okpanam, Ashaka, Ovwero in Ughelli North, Umunede, Igbodo, Idumusa, Ute, and other border communities. According to the police, these operations are designed to dismantle criminal enclaves, restore public confidence, and secure key entry and exit corridors across the state.

In a bid to strengthen community engagement, the Commissioner of Police has directed all Area Commanders to convene stakeholders’ town hall meetings within their jurisdictions. The initiative is expected to improve intelligence gathering and foster collaboration between law enforcement and local communities.

The Command also reiterated the availability of its emergency response channels, urging residents to report suspicious activities through designated control room numbers and the Complaint Response Unit (CRU) lines, which are specifically dedicated to addressing police misconduct and rights violations. Authorities assured that all reports would be treated confidentially and acted upon promptly.

Reaffirming its commitment to safeguarding lives and property, the police leadership urged residents to remain vigilant, avoid spreading unverified information capable of causing panic, and ensure proper monitoring of their wards. Community leaders, transport unions, and other stakeholders were also called upon to support ongoing security efforts.

The Command further assured that officers have been adequately briefed to carry out their duties with professionalism, respect for human rights, and zero tolerance for misconduct.
