A leading group, the Niger Delta Youth Council, NDYC has felicitated Chief Barr. MacDonald Igbadiwei on his emergence as President-Elect of the Ijaw National Congress (INC).

In a statement issued on Tuesday, April 15, 2026, by its president Chief Bene Youkore Mamamu described the outcome of the April 2026 INC presidential election as “divine and well deserved,” noting that the process was peaceful, free, fair, and credible.

Mamamu, a renowned traditional chief and ECOWAS Peace Ambassador, urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to send a goodwill message to the President-Elect. He emphasised that the INC is the apex socio-cultural organization of the Ijaw people — Nigeria’s fourth largest ethnic nationality — with a population that exceeds that of several African countries.

“Recognizing the new INC leadership at the presidential level will deepen national unity and affirm the place of the Ijaw nation in Nigeria’s socio-political structure,” Mamamu said.

Chief Mamamu pledged the readiness of the Niger Delta Youth Council (NDYC) to collaborate with the incoming INC administration. He revealed that arrangements are being made to meet with Chief Igbadiwei to share ideas on steering the affairs of the Ijaw nation, particularly on peacebuilding, economic inclusion, and youth development.

He called on critical leaders, stakeholders, and aspirants who did not win in the just concluded INC election to join hands with the new leadership. According to him, only a united front can reposition the Ijaw nation and free it from the “shackles of economic strangulation” confronting the region.

“The contest is over. What we need now is collective action to advance the dignity and prosperity of our people,” Mamamu added.

Chief Barr. MacDonald Igbadiwei was declared President-Elect of the INC following the national election held on April 13, 2026 at the Ijaw house, Yenagoa, Bayelsa State.
