The Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, Yemi Oyeniyi, has charged officers of the Command to uphold discipline, civility, and professionalism in the discharge of their duties, warning that violations of established standards will not be tolerated.

The directive was issued on Sunday during a high-level strategic meeting convened by the CP with senior officers, including Area Commanders, Tactical Commanders, Divisional Police Officers, and Heads of Departments.

Addressing the gathering, Oyeniyi emphasized the need for strict adherence to the rules and regulations of the Nigeria Police Force, as well as compliance with Standard Operating Procedures. He made it clear that the Force leadership would not accept excuses from officers who fail to act appropriately.

The CP expressed concern over reported cases of incivility among some personnel, reminding officers that policing is fundamentally a service to the public. He directed officers to maintain professionalism, politeness, and respect in all interactions with citizens.

He further tasked senior officers with greater supervisory responsibility, urging them to guide, monitor, and correct their subordinates where necessary. According to him, effective leadership includes motivating personnel, boosting morale, and ensuring that the image of the Force remains positive.

Oyeniyi also instructed that the directives from the meeting be cascaded across all formations within the Command to ensure full compliance. He added that senior officers must remain accessible to the public and make their official contact lines available to improve communication and build trust.

In line with directives from the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, the CP disclosed that tactical units within the Command have been reorganised to enhance operational efficiency and strengthen supervision.

The Delta State Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to upholding the highest standards of conduct, safeguarding citizens’ rights, and delivering accountable and effective policing across the state.

The statement was signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, and made available to journalists in Asaba.
