The Delta State Police Command has recorded another breakthrough in its ongoing fight against child trafficking and related crimes with the rescue of an abducted two-year-old child in Warri and the successful reunion of the victim with the parents.

The Command disclosed that the rescue operation was carried out by operatives of the Quick Response Squad (QRS), Warri, following a distress situation at Igbudu Market on May 10, 2026.

According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, the suspect, identified as 29-year-old Fejiro Obaduemu of Idesor Street, Isi Layout, Warri, was intercepted by vigilant residents while allegedly attempting to move the child concealed inside a sack bag.

The suspicious circumstance immediately attracted public attention, with an angry mob reportedly attempting to lynch the suspect over allegations of child stealing. However, operatives of the QRS swiftly intervened, rescued both the suspect and the child from the scene, and evacuated them to safety.

Police authorities revealed that the suspect sustained injuries during the mob attack and was subsequently taken to the Police Clinic in Warri for treatment before being taken into custody for further investigation.

Further investigations conducted by the police on May 11 led to the successful tracing of the child’s parents. The child was thereafter formally reunited with the family in the presence of leaders of the Hausa community in Warri.

Preliminary findings from the investigation reportedly indicate that the suspect confessed to being sent by another unidentified individual in Warri to steal the child. The Police Command stated that efforts are ongoing to arrest the alleged accomplice and dismantle the wider criminal network linked to child trafficking and abduction in the state.

The Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to protecting children and combating all forms of human trafficking and child-related crimes across Delta State.

He urged residents to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious movements or activities involving children to the nearest police station or through the Command’s emergency line: 08036684974.

The Command further assured the public that investigations into the incident are ongoing and that all persons connected to the crime will be brought to justice.
