BREAKING: Odidi Inaugurates New Leadership as Gbenekama Emerges Chairman
By Joseph Bienbo, Warri
The ancient Odidi federated community in Warri South West Local Government Area of Delta State inaugurated a new executive committee on Wednesday, May 13, 2026, in the community.
However, Amb. Truston Gbenekama emerged as the new chairman of the community, taking over from the outgoing executive led by Prince Preye Okirikpa, whose tenure expired on April 28, 2026.

The inauguration ceremony was presided over by the Secretary of the Elders Council, Engr. James Meneko Deribi, who delivered the opening address on behalf of the council.
In his speech, Engr. Deribi welcomed traditional rulers, government officials, security agencies, company representatives, neighboring community leaders, and members of the press to the event. He described the inauguration as “a memorable occasion” marking the beginning of a new four-year tenure for the executive committee, with no provision for extension in line with community practice.
“The operational guidelines for the community shall be the Elders Council’s rules and regulations being the apex organ, for smooth progress and peaceful co-existence pending the completion and submission of a working constitution for the community,” Deribi stated.
He emphasized unity among the four indigenous quarters of Odidi Community — Bostenumughan, Deribi, Keneyinbo, and Tamiemene — who are descendants of Dinakorogha. He urged all sons and daughters to avoid acts that could breed discord and invite external interference in community affairs.
The new executive committee was constituted based on nominees submitted by the respective indigenous families, consistent with the community’s customary process.
Deribi charged the incoming leadership to work harmoniously with other organs of the community to produce and complete a written constitution within the first half of their tenure. He also urged them to prioritize human and capital development through projects and programs that would directly impact residents.
“We encourage this Executive Committee to leave no stone unturned in bringing human and capital development to the community by embarking on laudable projects and programmes,” he said.
The elders also called on the outgoing executive under Prince Preye Okirikpa to cooperate with the new leadership by providing all necessary information to ensure a smooth and orderly transition.
The inauguration ended with prayers for peace, progress, and safe travels for all guests.
Residents expressed hope that the new executive would prioritize infrastructure, security, and engagement with oil companies operating in the area.
