BREAKING: Tompolo Urges Calm as Tensions Rise Over INEC Ward Delineation

The Ibe-Ebidouwei of the Ijaw Nation and Chairman of Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited, High Chief Government Oweizide Ekpemupolo, popularly known as Tompolo, has called for an emergency meeting of community leaders aimed at finding a peaceful solution to the escalating tensions surrounding the delay in implementation of Warri Federal Constituency ward delineation controversy.

According to a statement issued to newsmen on Tuesday night, Tompolo appealed for restraint and peaceful conduct amid the ongoing protests by women and youths from various communities, who have occupied several oil and gas facilities in the Escravos and Warri River axis in response to the lingering delineation dispute.
He acknowledged the widespread concerns generated by the development and joined other Nigerians in calling for dialogue and a peaceful resolution of the impasse.

The statement read, “Since June 8, 2026, we have all witnessed the peaceful mass action by women and youths from our various communities occupying oil and gas installations in the Escravos and Warri River areas. Since then, many well-meaning Nigerians have appealed for a peaceful resolution of the situation. I join them in calling for calm and constructive engagement,” he stated.

Tompolo emphasised that the Ijaw people have historically been known for their peaceful disposition and cautioned against any attempt to hijack the protests or allow the situation to degenerate into violence.
“The Ijaw Nation has always been recognised for its commitment to peace, and we must remain true to that heritage. The political issues arising from the failure of INEC to conclude the ward delineation process in the Warri Federal Constituency should not be allowed to fuel violence or disorder,” he said.

To prevent further escalation, the Niger Delta leader announced plans to immediately convene a meeting of community leaders to chart a way forward and strengthen efforts toward a peaceful settlement.
“I am appealing for calm regardless of the circumstances. I have also called for an urgent meeting of community leaders so that we can collectively explore a lasting solution. We must work together in the interest of peace and stability,” he added.

Tompolo further urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to act fairly and responsibly in addressing the concerns surrounding the delineation exercise.
“INEC must do what is right and take the necessary steps to restore peace in Warri and its environs. I call on all residents of Warri—Ijaw, Itsekiri, and Urhobo alike—to remain calm and patiently await the commission’s actions,” he said.
