Faults Exclusion of Isoko Nation from Newly Approved State Assembly Constituencies in Delta State

A socio-political advocacy group, Concerned Sons and Daughters of Isoko Kingdom for Good Governance, has commended the Governor of Delta State, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, for his swift intervention in efforts to restore peace and stability amid tensions arising from the implementation of the Supreme Court judgment on the Warri delineation exercise.

In a statement made available to journalists and signed by the group’s Coordinator, Gen. Omogha Wilson Ajiri, the organization praised Governor Oborevwori’s leadership in promoting dialogue and peaceful coexistence among the affected ethnic nationalities. The group also called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to take proactive steps towards ensuring a permanent and lasting resolution of the issues surrounding the Warri delineation process.

The group, however, expressed disappointment over what it described as the exclusion of the Isoko Nation from the six additional State House of Assembly constituencies reportedly restored in Delta State. According to the statement, Isoko Nation, being the second-largest oil-producing ethnic nationality in the state and possessing the required population strength, deserved to benefit from the constituency adjustments.

Gen. Ajiri criticized political leaders and elected representatives of Isoko extraction at the National Assembly, accusing them of failing to effectively advance the interests of the Isoko people. He argued that stronger representation and advocacy could have secured a constituency for the ethnic nationality during the review process.

He further lamented that the omission of Isoko Nation from the exercise has heightened concerns among the people and stressed that going forward, Isoko stakeholders would no longer accept being relegated to the background in Delta State politics.

The group reaffirmed its commitment to the development, progress, and political advancement of Isoko Nation, while also pledging continued support for initiatives that promote unity, peace, and sustainable development across Delta State.
