JUST IN: Chief Oputu Threatens Legal Action Over Alleged Defamation, Insists He Was a Freedom Fighter

The Chairman of the First Phase Presidential Amnesty Programme Delegates Forum and Senior Special Assistant to the Delta State Governor on Security, Chief Hon. Aaron Oputu, popularly known as General Aroni, has warned that he will take legal action against individuals allegedly linking him to robbery incidents during the Niger Delta struggle.

Speaking during a live interview with Congress News correspondents in Warri, Delta State, Oputu firmly denied ever participating in bank robbery or any criminal activity, maintaining that he was a freedom fighter who fought for the cause of the Niger Delta.

He described the allegations as false, malicious, and politically motivated, claiming they emerged following his recent emergence as Chairman of the First Phase Presidential Amnesty Programme Delegates Forum.

According to Oputu, the accusations are being propagated by individuals who were unsuccessful in their quest to become the National Chairman of the First Phase Presidential Amnesty Programme.

He warned that anyone found spreading what he described as defamatory and baseless allegations would face legal consequences, while urging members of the public to disregard the claims.

Oputu further stated that his public record speaks for itself, noting that successive Delta State administrations—from that of former Governor Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan to the current administration—have consistently entrusted him with public responsibilities, a reflection, he said, of the confidence reposed in his character and service.
