Delta CP Visits Agbarha-Warri Monarch, Warns Officers Against Human Rights Violations
By Chukwunonso Eric, Warri.
The Delta State Commissioner of Police, CP Samuel E. Erale, has called for stronger collaboration between the Police, traditional institutions and community stakeholders to sustain peace and tackle security challenges across the state.
Erale made the call during his familiarisation tour of the Warri Area Command, which included a courtesy visit to His Royal Majesty, Kingsley Emakpo Orereh, Igbi II, the Ovie of Agbarha-Warri Kingdom.
At the royal palace, the Commissioner acknowledged the strategic role of traditional rulers in promoting peace and supporting security initiatives at the grassroots. He stressed the need for sustained cooperation between the Police and community leaders to protect lives and property.
Addressing officers and stakeholders at the Warri Area Command, Erale described security as a collective responsibility and urged residents to embrace community policing by providing credible and timely information to security agencies.
He assured members of the public that the identities of informants would be treated with utmost confidentiality, while cautioning against supplying false or misleading information motivated by personal grievances, rivalry or sentiments.
The Commissioner also emphasised the importance of respect for human rights, warning that any police officer found violating the rights of citizens would face appropriate disciplinary action.
He further directed officers to desist from arrest by proxy, stressing that policing must be conducted professionally and in accordance with the law.
Erale urged community stakeholders to promote tolerance, mutual respect and peaceful coexistence, warning against actions capable of creating unnecessary tension and disrupting the peace of their communities.
He reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to strengthening community-based security efforts through cooperation with traditional rulers, residents and other stakeholders across Delta State.
