Delta CP apprehends suspected gun manufacturer, recovers guns

The Delta State Police Command on Friday said it has apprehended suspected gunrunners and recovered forty-two ( 42) locally made single barrel guns, six double barrel guns, and, three pump action guns in the state.

The Police commissioner, CP Ari Muhammed Ali, FCIA PSC+ disclosed this during a press briefing in Asaba on Friday.

According to him, the Command received credible intelligence about a syndicate who specialised in manufacturing locally made guns and other arms. “It was on this premise that I detailed the State Anti-Cult Unit (SACU) to carry out an intensive raid in the said area. The team entered the hideout in the Emuhu community, Ika North-East LGA, during which, forty-two (42) locally made single barrel guns, six (6) double barrel guns, three (3) pump action guns, two (2) filing machines, a toolbox containing fabricated materials, and working tools were recovered. The suspected ring leader, one Friday OjeiOjai, and nine (9) others all from Agba Quarters Emuhu were arrested, exhibited in custody, and investigation ongoing.

The CP stated again, “Following the murder of a lady named Peace surname unknown, suspected to be a commercial sex worker, who was killed by one Emmanuel, and the room set ablaze by the suspect. Operatives of ‘A’ Division Asaba and Anti-kidnapping section embarked on an intelligence destination, during which the victim’s phone that was stolen by the suspect was recovered from the receiver who bought from the murder suspect.

“The suspect also masterminded his own kidnapped and has so far extorted the sum of four million naira,4,000,000) from his father. The suspect Emmanuel Ujedibe ‘m’ age 22yrs has been arrested. During interrogation, the suspect claimed that the victim stole his iPhone max and that’s why he killed her. The investigation is ongoing.”

In a related development, the police also arrested a suspect who killed his wife in Ozoro Delta state.

The statement read, “On 2/11/2020, the DPO Ozoro received a distress call that on the same date, the house of one Oghogho Olori ‘f’ aged 42years was visited by her younger brother who has not heard from her for some time, but he discovered that the door to the apartment was locked from outside with an offensive odour emitting from the apartment.

“The DPO swiftly mobilized men who broke into the apartment and discovered that the victim has been murdered and the husband was nowhere to be found. The Command embarked on a manhunt for the husband who was suspected to have committed the offence. Consequently, on 3/11/2022, the husband of the victim reported himself at the Police station and confessed to the crime stating that he murdered her over a disagreement. The investigation is ongoing.

” On the /2022 at about 2100hrs, Dragon Patrol teams 15/13 while on stop-and-search duty along Warri-Sapele Road by Ibada-Elume in Sapele LGA, Intercepted one Lexus330 SUV with reg no.KWC 81 HH, Chasis no.JTIHF31U400010242 For a search. The driver who was the lone occupant of the vehicle jumped out of the vehicle and fled into a nearby bush in a bid to escape, but was chased and arrested. During the investigation, the suspect was identified as Idowu James ‘m’ 28yrs of No. 25 Kareem Oyeladi Street mangoro Agege Lagos State. Upon search of the car, documents bearing the name of the owner (name withheld) of the vehicle were recovered. A call was put across to the phone number found in the document, one man (name withheld) answered and informed the police that the vehicle was snatched at gunpoint from his son (name withheld) on 4/11/2022 at about 1900hrs around Ebrumede Area during which he was shot and currently receiving treatment. The suspect is in custody and the investigation is ongoing.

“In a bid to get rid of the syndicate who uses Tricycle to rob passengers of their valuables, phones, hack into their accounts and withdraw their money. I directed the Command’s D-Coy Squad to investigate and ensure that this syndicate is arrested and brought to book.

“In Compliance with my directive, the team embarked on an intelligence-led investigation, stormed their hideout behind point hotel Iyiagu Estate in Anambra State, and arrested one Ikechukwu Ayigbe ‘m’ age 26yrs, who is the gang’s bank account hacker, Tobi James ‘m’ age 30yrs, who buys the stolen phones and waybill them to Lagos, and seven (7) other suspects with over sixty (60) sim cards recovered. The investigation is ongoing.

“Sequel to the bullion van robbery incident at Otor-Owhe community that took place on 27/1/2022, where some policemen were shot and rifles taken away by the suspects, operatives of the Command Decoy squad acting on information embarked on an intelligence-led investigation, stormed their hideout in Udu LGA, the suspect engaged the operatives in a gun duel, where two of the suspect were neutralized while others escaped.

“Two (2) AK47 rifles, one English pistol, and three rounds of live ammunition were recovered from him. A manhunt for the fleeing members of the gang is ongoing.

“On 16/9/2022, at about 2230hrs, acting on information received that an unknown hoodlum stormed the residence of one man (name withheld) along Railway Station Road Agbarho, kidnapped him and drove out of the premises, the DPO mobilized and led Police operatives who went on their trail.

“The hoodlums on sighting the Policemen engaged them in a gun duel, but due to the superior firepower of the Police, the hoodlums ran into the bush abandoning the victim by the Railway Station. The victim who was tied and kept in the boot of the car was rescued unhurt. When the car was searched, fifty (50) rounds of live cartridges were recovered. The effort is on to arrest the fleeing hoodlums.

“At this juncture, I wish to appreciate all residents in the State for their support to the Police and want to encourage them to continue to partner with the Police by providing the Command with useful and timely information that will aid in crime fighting and I am assuring them, that their identities will be treated with the utmost confidentiality.
