Abia Assembly receives petitions on alleged intimidation of nursing students, land grabbing

The Abia State House of Assembly has received a petition from a group known as Concerned Parents Forum of students of Midwifery and Nursing School, Abia State, against the acting Director of nursing services in Abia State, Mr Nwakaego Onyeukwu.

The petition borders on alleged fraudulent malpractices, intimidation and threats to expel students.

The petition was heard in the House during a plenary session.

The House also received a petition against the Abia State commissioner for health, Dr Mrs Ngozi Okoronkwo, on alleged undue suspension from the office of the petitioner, Mrs Dorathy Nwosu, a Director of nursing services and another petition brought by the acting Principal, School of Nursing, Umuahia, Mrs Chinyere Ogbonna against the Dean, ministry of health, Umuahia.

In the petition against the dean, the petitioner claimed that her character was defamed, adding that her functions were also usurped.

Ruling on the three petitions, the Speaker, Emmanuel Emeruwa sent them to the House Committee on Health to investigate and report back within two weeks.

Also, the petition brought Dr Ugochukwu Nwajiri, the Chairman of Ndiokonkwo house, on alleged undue land grabbing at Oba Uzonta in Amaokwe Mba Odum autonomous community in Ozuitem, Bende LGA, against one Mr Ndionyenma Nwajiri, was referred to the Committee on public petitions to investigate and report back, within 2 weeks.

Meanwhile, the member representing the Umunnochi constituency, Mathias Umeh has cried out to the relevant agencies, to intervene in the problems of bad roads and gully erosion threatening the lives and economic survival of his constituents.

Umeh, who said that gully erosion at Leru-Lomara-Nneato road had become a big challenge to the people of Umunneochi, also lamented the lack of access roads in parts of Umunneochi.
