ABU’s Senate building destroyed by fire

Fire has destroyed a portion of the Senate Building at Ahmadu Bello University’s Samaru Main Campus in Zaria.
Malam Auwalu Umar, the university’s director of public affairs, verified the occurrence in a statement on Friday.
The statement claimed that the impacted area was a small room that housed an electrical Distribution Board (DB) on the ground floor of the Senate building.
Umar said there had been no reports of casualties or injuries since the fire started at 4:15 p.m. and that the cause could not be immediately ascertained.
He added that the Distribution Board and a few outdated public address equipment were also destroyed by the fire.
“The timely intervention of the University firefighters and security personnel saved the situation. Power has since been restored to the building,” he said.
The vice-chancellor, prof. Kabiru Bala was reportedly present at the scene of the event along with several management staff members and hundreds of supporters.
The announcement also disclosed that a committee has been established by the university administration to look into the incident’s circumstances.
