President Bola Tinubu has come under fire from Atiku Abubakar, the 2023 Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate, for bringing a sizable entourage to the ongoing COP28 Climate Change Summit in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

According to Atiku, Tinubu’s big entourage converted the global change conference into a “Owambe” all-comers jamboree.

According to a statement released by his spokesperson, Paul Ibe, Atiku claimed Tinubu was unaware of the severity of the economic catastrophe Nigeria is currently experiencing as a result of his misguided economic policies.

Atiku reiterated that, the goals of the COP28 conference are not to throw a jamboree party but rather to improve people’s lives, preserve nature, provide clean air and water, and provide wholesome food for everybody.

“How will the head of a government turn a climate change conference into an all-comers’ jamboree and ‘owambe’ party of over 1,400 delegates?” asks Atiku. It is absurd and further evidence that, in terms of governance, he is still asleep.

“The economic dire straits that Nigeria is facing demand that its leaders cut their coats according to the cloth available. It makes no sense for us to continue to borrow money to throw a street party outside the country.

“The leader of the Nigerian delegation should be reminded: COP28UAE is about improving lives, about clean air and water, healthy food, for all people, for nature, for a safe and secure future, and not for a jamboree of over 1,400 Owambe delegates.”
