BREAKING: Ijaw Youth Protests at DESOPADEC Headquarters Over Neglect

By Stephen Asaba-ase
Ijaw oil producing communities kingdom youths have staged a peaceful protest at the Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (DESOPADEC) headquarters this morning, expressing their dissatisfaction over the alleged non-inclusion, neglect and underemployment of Ijaws in the commission.
The protesters, who were seen carrying placards and chanting slogans, claimed that despite being a major ethnic group youth in the Delta State, the Ijaw people have been marginalized and excluded from key development and social amenities by DESOPADEC.
The youths demanded that the state government and DESOPADEC management address their grievances and ensure that Ijaw youths and their kingdoms are included in the commission’s development efforts and other key decision-making processes.
The protest caused a temporary disruption of activities at the DESOPADEC headquarters, with security personnel on the scene to maintain order. The protest is still ongoing at the time of filing this report.
