BREAKING: INC Loses Central Zone Chairman, HRH Theophilus
By Joseph Bienbo, Warri
The Ijaw Nation is mourning, following the reported death of the Chairman of the Ijaw National Congress (INC), Central Zone, His Royal Highness Moses Theophilus. The news of his demise broke on Wednesday, sending shock waves across Ijaw communities in Bayelsa, Delta, Rivers and beyond, with many describing it as a sad day for the Ijaw Nation.
As at press time, details surrounding the cause and circumstances of his death remain sketchy, though family and close associates have confirmed the development. H.R.H Theophilus, until his reported death, was the Chairman of INC Central Zone, the most strategic zone of the pan-Ijaw socio-cultural organization, covering Bayelsa State, the stronghold of the Ijaw Nation.
He was widely respected as a traditional ruler, a grassroots mobilizer and a staunch advocate for the unity, peace and development of the Ijaw people. Under his leadership, the Central Zone of INC remained vocal on issues affecting the Ijaw Nation, including resource control, environmental justice and political inclusion in the Niger Delta. His reported passing comes at a time when the Ijaw Nation is navigating critical issues of leadership and cohesion, making his loss even more painful to the people.
However, the Ijaw National Congress is yet to issue an official statement on the development, while the family is expected to announce burial arrangements in due course. Congress Newspaper will bring you more details as the story unfolds.
