BREAKING: Major Oil Spill Hits Delta As Residents Demand Urgent Govt Action

Residents of Egwa 2 community in Warri South West LGA, Delta State, have raised an alarm over a dangerous oil leak allegedly coming from a Nestoil-operated manifold since August 3, 2026.

The community warned of a possible explosion due to high pressure at the facility. They are calling on Nestoil, NOSDRA, DPR, the state government and other relevant bodies to respond immediately. According to them, the spill has already spread and contaminated nearby waterways and surrounding areas.

Footage from the area shows clear signs of oil pollution around the facility. The water looks severely affected, and fishing activities as well as access to water sources have been disrupted.

The incident has sparked concern among locals who depend on the water for daily survival. The pollution is feared to pose serious threats to the environment, aquatic life, and public health.

Residents are now urging the Delta State Government, regulatory agencies, and the oil company in the area to visit Egwa 2, assess the damage, and take quick steps to contain the leak and begin clean-up operations.

They also asked for emergency provision of clean and safe drinking water for Egwa 2 residents while waiting for a full remediation process.

Community members stressed that the situation must not be ignored, and urged authorities to treat it as an environmental emergency. They want those responsible to be held accountable.

The people of Egwa 2 are appealing for swift government intervention, an environmental assessment, and remediation to prevent further destruction to their community and water resources.

“We need clean water, a safe environment and urgent intervention because our safety is at risk” – the residents noted.

This is coming just after months of similar incident in Odidi community in the same locality. However, at the time of filing this report, the cause of the incident has not been ascertain. Also no official statement from the company and regulatory agencies yet.
