JUST IN: Ndokwa West chairman, vice face suspension over misconduct

Following an allegation of official misconducts, the Delta State House of Assembly has imposed suspension on the chairman of Ndokwa West local government, chief Obi Nzete and his vice, Mrs Anwuli Asuobi in the penultimate week.

Plenary which presided over by the deputy Speaker of the State Assembly; Rt. Hon. Ochor Christopher Ochor passed the suspension order following an alleged financial misappropriation and official misconduct among others leveled against the two accused persons by the legislative arm of the council.

Recall, the legislative arm of Ndokwa West local government had forwarded to the state Assembly notice of removal of the chairman of the council, Chief Obi Nzete, and his vice, Mrs. Anwuli Asuobi respectively for rectification.

The letter was read by the deputy Speaker, Ochor, revealing that fifteen out of twenty members of the legislative arm signed the impeachment notice.

The letter revealing that the council boss and his deputy’s removal was as a result of series of allegations that included; gross misconduct, abuse of office, and failure to adhere to due process in the running of their offices as stipulated in section 31 of the Local Government Law of Delta state.

However, the Deputy Speaker announced the setting up of a four-man adhoc committee to investigate the allegations and to submit its report in six weeks’ time.

The Committee has the Chairman, Assembly Committee on Public Accounts, Hon. Anthony Elekeokwuri as Chairman while Honourable Oboro Preyor, Pat Ajudua and Reuben Izeze are to serve as members. The Deputy Clerk of the house, Mr. Otto Aghoghophia would serve as Secretary.

The House ordered that the leader of the Legislative Arm, Mr. Clement Okwuazu should take charge of the affairs of the council pending the outcome of the investigation.

The development was coming barely one week after the State Legislature approved the suspension of the Chairman of Ndokwa East Local Government, Mr. Juan Governor on Allegations of Financial misappropriation.
