Angry Ijaw youths in Edo state have called on governor Godwin Obaseki to appoint Ijaw Commissioner in the state for the interest of peace.

This was disclosed in a statement by Comrade Kighilly Victor, secretary Gbaraun clan Ijaw youth Council, IYC on Sunday.

The IYC clan secretary, said for over decades, the Ijaws in the Edo state had been marginalized by the Binis.

“We seriously frown at the exclusion of Ijaws in the appointment of Commissioners in the state. Ignoring Ijaws only show Africa culture in Obaseki. We are disappointed, in spite of our total support for his first and recent reelections as governor in the state”, Victor stressed.

“We want to emphatically make it known to the government of Edo state that except drastic steps are taken to address the injustice meted for the Ijaws in the state, it may derail the peaceful running of the state.

“We, therefore call on Obaseki, the executive Governor of the state to have a rethink in oder to form a government that would comprise Ijaws in the state”

However, the Ijaw leader warned the leader of Bini Solidarity Movement, Mr Curtis Ugbo to stop describing Ijaws in the Edo State as strangers, adding that Ijaws had long existed in Edo before the Binis migrated from Oduduwa in the South West.

He affirmed that the Ijaws were the landlords in Edo State.
