Court orders seizure of N600,000 owned by self-acclaimed activist Tega over unlawful arrest, attack on businessman

The magistrate court sitting in Osubi, near Warri, Delta State, Nigeria makes absolute orders, asking the UBA to release the sum of six hundred and eighty thousand naira only (#680,000.00) belonging to one self-acclaimed activist SHALOKPE TEGA to Mr Famous Ayiwe, who was extorted and brutalised under the jurisdiction of the court.
The Applicant Famous Ayiwe was subjected to several arrests and detentions by one Ms Shalokpe Tega who alleged the said Famous Ayiwe was asking out the sidechic of her associate.
Congress learnt that she mobilised police officers of Ebrumede division and seized the car of the applicant parked at the Lakeside hotels, Ebrumede.
It was gathered the victim following the incident instructed his lawyer Omes Ogedegbe, Esq. to file an action against the said Ms Tega Shalokpe and the police IN THE MATTER OF AN APPLICATION FOR THE ENFORCEMENT OF HIS FUNDAMENTAL RIGHTS IN SUIT NO: UHC/FR/35/2023.

According to the victim, the moment the said Tega Shalokpe was served with the processes of the court, she mobilised police men from Asaba and re-arrested the applicant further.
However, the court entered judgment against the said Tega Shalokpe and the police in the sum of seven million naira only (#7,000,000.00) in its recent judgement.
Consequently, the applicant’s lawyer Omes Ogedegbe, Esq. traced the funds of the said Shalokpe Tega to her UBA account and upon a garnishee proceedings filed at the Magistrate court Osubi, the court directed the UBA bank to release the only amount in the account to Mr. Famous Ayewi on the 13th December, 204.
In reaction, the human rights lawyer described the judgement as a victory for the rule of law. “This judgement of the Delta State High Court, Ughelli been enforced was delivered in 2023 while there is another judgement delivered against the said Tega Shalokpe, Henry Osubor and the police by the State High Court, Effurun handled by the same law firm of Ogedegbe & Ogedegbe.
