CP Yemi Oyeniyi Seeks Traditional, Community Support as Familiarization Tour Reaches Ozoro Area Command

The Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, has called for stronger collaboration between the Nigeria Police Force, traditional institutions and local communities to enhance security and combat rising criminal activities across the state.

The appeal was made on Thursday during the Commissioner’s familiarization tour to the Ozoro Area Command, where he paid a courtesy visit to the Ovie of Ozoro Kingdom, His Royal Majesty, Barr. Anthony Uvietobore Ogbogbo (Ibuka I), before meeting with community stakeholders and police officers. The visit, according to the Command, aligns with the policing vision of the Inspector-General of Police aimed at deepening grassroots policing through stronger partnerships with traditional rulers and local communities.

Speaking at the royal palace, CP Oyeniyi commended the Ozoro Kingdom for its unwavering support to the Nigeria Police Force and highlighted the vital role of traditional rulers in addressing security challenges such as kidnapping, cultism and drug-related crimes, especially in rural communities. He stressed that effective policing is fundamental to sustainable economic development and assured the monarch of the command’s commitment to intelligence-led, professional and lawful policing despite the evolving security challenges.

In his response, the Ovie of Ozoro Kingdom reaffirmed the palace’s confidence in the Nigeria Police Force and pledged continued cooperation with the Delta State Police Command. He assured the Commissioner of the kingdom’s readiness to support all efforts aimed at protecting lives and property, maintaining peace and promoting security within the community.

Addressing stakeholders and officers of the Ozoro Area Command, the Commissioner described security as a shared responsibility that requires active participation from members of the public. He urged residents to provide timely and credible intelligence to the police while charging officers to maintain the highest standards of discipline, professionalism and respect for human rights. CP Oyeniyi also warned personnel against violating the Force’s Social Media Policy and directed them to intensify intelligence-led operations against kidnapping, cultism, drug-related crimes and other criminal activities while strengthening public confidence through effective community policing.
