Delta community crisis kills youth leader, injures others

The brewing crisis rocking the Ofuoma Community in Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State has killed a factional youth leader of the community, Felix Edemughe and injured several others.

The incident which occurred on Monday 22nd August 2022 reportedly shut down commercial activities in the community.

It was gathered Ofuoma community hosts the Delta State School of Health and Technology.

Sources said security operatives took over the community on Monday to forestall normalcy among the two warring factions in the community, adding that the movement of students was halted in the community following the death of the community youth leader.

The source said apart from the death of a youth leader, the late Felix Edenughe, and others equally sustained various degrees of injuries in the ensuing battle.

A resident in the community who pleaded anonymity said the deceased, Felix Edenughe was the factional youth Vice Chairman in the community.

He further revealed that the crisis was caused by two prominent indigenes that were poised to control the central executive of the community.

According to him, the issue is before a customary court with suit No. UNACC/139/2021 but was shocked over what later triggered the killing and destruction of properties in the community.

However, the source accused the security agents of not being proactive to quell the situation that later escalated to the killing and destruction of properties.

The Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Bright Edafe, confirmed the report but said the investigation is ongoing.
