Delta CP Strengthens Community Policing, Meets Oghara Monarch, Security Stakeholders

The Commissioner of Police, Yemi Oyeniyi, has reaffirmed the Delta State Police Command’s commitment to intelligence-led policing and stronger collaboration with traditional institutions, local government authorities and community leaders as part of efforts to enhance security across the state.

The assurance came during a strategic security visit to Oghara on Monday, July 6, 2026, where the Commissioner paid a courtesy visit to the traditional ruler of the kingdom, Noble Oyibo Eshemitan, the Uku Oghara Na’me, Orefe III, before presiding over a stakeholders’ security meeting in Ethiope West Local Government Area.

According to a statement issued on Tuesday by the Police Public Relations Officer, Bright Edafe, the visit forms part of the command’s ongoing engagement with traditional rulers and community stakeholders aimed at strengthening community policing and improving public safety.

During the palace visit, CP Oyeniyi commended the monarch for his leadership in fostering peace and unity within Oghara Kingdom. Following an assessment of the area’s security situation, he described Oghara as largely peaceful despite isolated incidents of kidnapping and cult-related crimes.

The Commissioner reiterated the directive of the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, which emphasizes closer collaboration between the police, traditional rulers, local government authorities and communities as a key strategy for effective policing. He stressed that criminal elements remain a common threat and called for sustained intelligence sharing and collective efforts to preserve peace.

In his response, the Ovie of Oghara Kingdom praised the Commissioner as a focused and capable leader, while reaffirming the kingdom’s commitment to supporting the police in protecting lives and property.

The security stakeholders’ meeting brought together the Chairman of Ethiope West Local Government Area, Christian O. Onogba, youth leaders, Presidents-General of communities, members of the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), representatives of the Arewa community and other stakeholders.

Discussions centred on pressing security challenges, including drug abuse, cultism and kidnapping. Participants resolved to strengthen cooperation through timely intelligence sharing, protection of informants and improved synergy between the police, judiciary, local government and community leaders to ensure effective prosecution of criminal suspects and sustained peace.

CP Oyeniyi assured stakeholders that the Delta State Police Command would continue to deepen strategic partnerships and adopt proactive, people-centred policing in line with the vision of the Inspector-General of Police.

Also speaking, the Chairman of Ethiope West Local Government reaffirmed the council’s readiness to support the police in promoting a safer and more secure local government area.
