Delta Police Arrest 22 Suspects, Rescue Two Minors in Crackdown on Illicit Drug Dens

The Delta State Police Command has intensified its campaign against illicit drug trafficking and related crimes with the arrest of 22 suspects and the rescue of two minors during an intelligence-led raid on suspected drug dens in Ozoro and Abraka.

According to a statement issued on Thursday by the Police Public Relations Officer, Bright Edafe, the operation was carried out on July 21, 2026, by operatives led by the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the Department of Operations.

The coordinated raid targeted identified illicit drug dens and criminal hideouts in Ofagbe Community, Ozoro, as well as Ekrejeta and the NUT Area in Abraka, following credible intelligence gathered by the command.

During the operation, police arrested 22 suspects, comprising 19 males and three females, for offences bordering on the sale, possession, and distribution of illicit drugs.

The operation also led to the rescue of two minors who were found in a suspected drug den allegedly operated by their father. The children have since been placed in protective custody and will be handed over to the Delta State Ministry of Women Affairs for appropriate care and safeguarding, while investigations continue.

Reacting to the development, the Commissioner of Police, Yemi Oyeniyi, described the presence of minors in an environment linked to illicit drug activities as deeply disturbing. He reaffirmed the command’s commitment to dismantling drug trafficking networks, protecting vulnerable persons, and sustaining intelligence-driven operations across the state.

The police commissioner also appealed to parents, guardians, and community leaders to remain vigilant and continue providing credible information that will assist security agencies in combating drug-related crimes and other forms of criminality in Delta State.
