Delta Police Assure Tight Security as Residents Mark Democracy Day

The Delta State Police Command has assured residents of adequate security across the state before, during, and after the 2026 Democracy Day celebrations, reaffirming its commitment to maintaining peace, public order, and the safety of lives and property.

The assurance was contained in a statement issued on Friday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, CP Yemi Oyeniyi.

According to the statement, the Commissioner of Police has directed the strategic deployment of personnel and operational assets across the state to ensure a hitch-free celebration. The security arrangement includes conventional police officers, tactical units, intelligence operatives, and undercover personnel positioned at key locations and public facilities.

The Command disclosed that security operatives have been deployed to critical infrastructure, places of worship, recreational centres, major highways, and other public spaces considered vulnerable during the festivities.

CP Oyeniyi also instructed Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers, and Tactical Commanders to intensify visibility policing, intelligence gathering, and confidence-building patrols within their jurisdictions to deter criminal activities and reassure residents.

While extending Democracy Day greetings to residents and visitors, the Police Commissioner urged members of the public to celebrate responsibly and remain vigilant throughout the holiday period.

He called on citizens to promptly report suspicious persons, movements, or activities to the nearest police station or relevant security agencies, stressing that public cooperation remains vital in enhancing security across the state.

The Commissioner further appealed to residents to support security personnel carrying out their duties and to remain law-abiding during the celebrations.

Reaffirming the Command’s readiness to tackle any security threat, CP Oyeniyi warned criminal elements against exploiting the festive atmosphere to perpetrate unlawful acts, emphasizing that the Police Command remains fully prepared to deal decisively with anyone found attempting to disrupt public peace and security.

The Delta State Police Command reiterated its unwavering commitment to safeguarding lives and property and ensuring that residents enjoy a peaceful and secure Democracy Day celebration.
