Delta Police Rescue Kidnap Victim, Arrest Armed Robbery Suspects, Recover Firearm and Drugs

The Delta State Police Command has recorded a series of operational breakthroughs in its ongoing fight against violent crime and drug-related offences, including the rescue of a kidnapped victim, the arrest of suspected armed robbers, and the recovery of a locally fabricated firearm and illicit drugs in separate operations across the state.

According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, the operations underscore the Command’s sustained intelligence-led efforts to enhance public safety and dismantle criminal networks in Delta State.

In one of the operations, operatives of the Command’s Special Anti-Kidnapping and Cyber Crime Squad (SAKU) successfully rescued a kidnapped male victim unhurt, without the payment of ransom.

The victim was abducted by armed men on June 10, 2026, at Okpanam. Acting on a report received on June 11, police operatives swiftly launched a coordinated intelligence-driven operation to trace the victim and apprehend the suspects. Under sustained pressure from security operatives, the kidnappers eventually abandoned the victim and fled their hideout. He was rescued safely, debriefed, and reunited with his family. Efforts are ongoing to track down and arrest the fleeing suspects.

In a separate development on June 12, 2026, operatives of the Distress 01 Patrol Team, while on routine patrol in Asaba at about 12:30 p.m., intercepted a tricycle carrying three occupants. A search of the suspects led to the recovery of a locally fabricated Beretta pistol.

The suspects — identified as Ewendeze De-Grace (19), Eruweghene Amede (20), and Chukwuemeka Arinze (21) — were immediately arrested. Preliminary investigations indicate that they are allegedly members of the Aro Bagger Confraternity. The suspects and the recovered firearm are currently in custody as investigations continue.

In another operation targeting drug-related activities, operatives of the Kwale Division, acting on credible intelligence on June 10, 2026, raided a suspected drug distribution point in Kwale.

During the raid, two male suspects fled the scene, while a 45-year-old woman, Ananyi Vivian, was arrested. Preliminary findings suggest the premises were being used for illicit drug activities. The suspect reportedly admitted awareness of the illegal operations during interrogation. Efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspects and others linked to the drug network.

The Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, commended the operatives involved for their professionalism, vigilance, and commitment to duty. He reiterated the Command’s determination to sustain its crackdown on criminality across the state and urged residents to continue providing timely and credible information to support security operations.

The Command assured the public of its resolve to ensure that all suspects found culpable are brought to justice.
