A Human Rights Group under the auspices of Delta Ijaw Comrade Community, DICC has threatened a showdown over the killing of two Ijaw Indigenes in Toru-Angiama community in Patani Local Government Area of Delta state on Monday by suspected Fulani herdsmen.

This was disclosed in a statement by its President General Amb. Binebai Yerin Princewill, which a copy was sent to Congress correspondent on Thursday.

The group while describing the act as callous and evil, called on security agents to swing into action by fishing out the killers to face the music of the law to avoid residents resorting to self-help.

The statement reads partly: “If the Government and its security agencies cannot curtail the excesses of Fulani herdsmen in Nigeria and Ijaw communities in Delta State, nobody should blame anybody when the people rise to defend themselves as no one has the monopoly of taking another person’s life.

He stressed: “Nigeria is gradually becoming a banana Republic where human lives are regarded as less important than even cows and other animals.
At this point, our people need to be at alert”.

DICC, however, sympathized with the families of the victims, describing the event as sad and a monumental loss to the immediate families, Toru-Angiama community, Patani Local Government and to the entire Ijaws in Delta State.
