DSS, Security Agencies Rescue Kidnap Victim in Imo

OPERATIVES of the Department of State Services (DSS), in collaboration with other security agencies and local vigilantes, have rescued a 29-year-old man, Ibeabuchi Adibenma, who was abducted by suspected kidnappers in Orlu Local Government Area of Imo State.

Adibenma was kidnapped at about 7pm on Tuesday, August 18, 2026, around Afor-Ogidi Market in Isiala Amaifeke Community, while returning from the International Market, Umuna, Orlu.

According to a statement issued by the Imo State Command of the DSS on Friday, the victim was intercepted by armed suspects allegedly operating on two motorcycles.

The suspects were said to have double-crossed his vehicle before forcing him to an undisclosed location.
Following the abduction, the kidnappers reportedly contacted the victim’s family and demanded N15 million as ransom for his release.

However, in the early hours of Thursday, August 20, security operatives launched a coordinated operation that culminated in the victim’s rescue at Ihioma Community, Orlu.

The operation also resulted in two suspected members of the kidnapping syndicate being neutralised, while two high-calibre weapons and ammunition were recovered.

Following his rescue, Adibenma was taken into protective custody and subsequently reunited with his family.

The development underscores the growing collaboration between security agencies and local vigilante groups in Imo State in efforts to disrupt criminal networks and prevent the state from becoming a haven for kidnappers and other violent criminals.

The security agencies said intelligence gathering, surveillance and joint operations had been intensified across the state, with efforts ongoing to track down other members of the syndicate who remain at large.

They urged residents to remain vigilant and promptly provide credible information that could assist security agencies in preventing and combating kidnapping and other forms of violent crime across the state.
