Edo Poll: Okojie, Mercy Johnson’s Husband Escapes Assassination Attempt

A federal lawmaker, Hon. Henry Okojie, who is representing the good people of Esan North-East/Esan South-East Federal Constituency has just escaped an attempted assassination by some armed motivated political tugs in his residence in Edo State but was quickly foiled by security personnel.

Meanwhile, Mr Michael Ihaza, the Media aide to the lawmaker confirmed the incident in a statement on Friday, affirming that Okojie, the husband of the Nollywood Movie Star, Mercy Johnson, was allegedly assaulted at his residence by some unknown gunmen in a Lexus GX 470 carrying a Rivers State vehicle registration number – PHC 253 FF.

According to the Media aide, the premeditated assassination “was unsuccessful owing to the quick interception of security men attached to the lawmaker”.

However, the armed thugs who camouflage as police officers accompanied by other two men attacked the home of the lawmaker, claiming to have booked an appointment with him and proceeded to the seating room.

“And when scrutinized by the security officers attached to the lawmaker, two of the armed thugs fled leaving behind the driver and the other who are currently under interrogation by Uromi Area Police Command Edo State.

“The suspects have so far made a confessional statement saying that they were sent by the leaders of a popular political party in Esan North East Local Government Area,” the statement added.

Efforts to reach the Edo State Police Command for comments is currently unfruitful.
