#End Bad Governance Protest: Niger Delta States Record Poor Turnouts

The much-anticipated #”End Bad Governance” protest, which was expected to draw massive crowds across the country Nigeria, recorded an insignificant turnout in Niger Delta states in the day 1 of the 10 days protest.

 

Despite the widespread discontent with the current state of governance in the region, only a handful of protesters showed up in major cities like Port Harcourt, Yenagoa, Delta, Edo and Uyo.

 

The low turnout has been attributed to various factors, including fear of intimidation and harassment by security agencies, lack of trust in the organizers, and the perceived futility of protests in bringing about meaningful change.

 

However, some protesters who defied the odds to participate in the demonstration expressed their frustration with the government’s failure to address pressing issues like poverty, unemployment, and environmental degradation.

 

“We are tired of the empty promises and lack of action from our leaders,” said one protester. “We demand better governance and a more equitable distribution of resources.”

 

The protest was largely peaceful, with security agencies maintaining a visible presence to prevent any potential violence.

 

The outcome of the protest had left many wondering if the Niger Delta region is ready to demand the change it so desperately needs.
