#Endbadgovernance Protest: Suspected Ovwie Youth Attacks Rights Lawyer, Ogedegbe, Others In Effurun
By Stephen Asaba-ase
A shocking incident occurred during the #Endbadgovernance protest in Effurun, Delta State, when suspected Ovwie youth attacked a human rights lawyer, Omes Ogedegbe Esq, and others who were trying to stop the brutalization of protesters in the Ovwie axis of the city.
According to eyewitnesses, Omes Ogedegbe and his team had intervened to prevent hoodlums from attacking protesters when the suspected Ovwie youth descended upon them, wielding weapons and inflicting injuries.
The motive behind the attack is still unclear, but it is believed that the youth may have been sponsored by political interests to disrupt the protest and silence dissenting voices.
Ogedegbe, who is known for his advocacy for human rights and justice, was beaten and injured in the attack, along with several other protesters.
The incident had sparked widespread condemnation, with many calling for an investigation into the attack and the prosecution of those responsible.
“This is a clear attempt to silence dissenting voices and suppress the right to protest,” said a human rights activist. “We demand justice for Ogedegbe and the other victims, and an end to the brutalization of protesters.”
The #Endbadgovernance protest is a nationwide movement calling for an end to bad governance, corruption, and human rights abuses in Nigeria. Despite the challenges and attacks, protesters have vowed to continue their agitation for a better Nigeria.”
