Fresh crisis looms as Ijaw pastor tortured to death in Delta

Unease in Ogbe-Ijoh and Aladja Communities in Warri South West and Udu Local Government Areas as one Pastor Yerinbide Sylvester, an indigene of Ogbe-Ijoh community was tortured and stabbed in a pool of blood in Aladja Community.

The incident occurred on Friday October 29, 2021 when pastor Sylvester was tortured and left to the pool of bloody in Aladja Community.

A source, said Pastor Sylvester was on his way to attend a vigil organized by the redeemed Christian Church at Aladja Community when he was accosted and tortured to stupor.

The source, added that Sylvester was a Pastor in Redeem Christian Church of God in Ogbe-Ijoh Community.

It was learnt the tortured and stabbed pastor Sylvester died in an undisclosed clinic in Warri on 30th October, 2021.

In a statement by the Chairman of the Ijaw Youth Council, IYC,
of Ogbe-Ijoh Warri Kingdom,
Amb. Victor Akemotubo, had called on the Delta State Government and security agencies to urgently investigate the matter and bring to book the culprits.

The statement reads: “Pst. Yerinbide Sylvester, a native of Ogbe-Ijoh Warri Kingdom was going to Aladja community on Friday 29th of October 2021 for an all night programme as a Pastor in Redeem Christian Church of God when suspected Aladja community youths attacked him and allegedly beat him to stupor before he was rescued by some Ogbe-Ijoh youths that are commercial motorcyclists plying Ogbe-Ijoh/Aladja road.

According to IYC: “After rushing him in a pool of blood to Ogbe-Ijoh for treatment in an hospital, the health condition of Sylvester deteriorated to an extent that he was rushed to a clinic in Warri for further treatment when he died on Saturday 30th October, 2021”, he added.
